San Diego County Fair, formerly known as Del Mar Fair, is something that I look forward to every time June rolls around.
For me, it’s basically the epitome of summer. The smell of funnel cakes and fried food will tempt even the weakest of stomach to indulge in a plateful of frog legs (I tried them once and immediately regretted my decision). You can also shop, check out the art and photography exhibits, watch concerts, and buy tickets for rides and games. At night, the Ferris Wheel will light up like a Christmas tree.

You’d think since I love the fair this much, I’d be the first one at the gate. But it wasn’t till closing weekend that we inched our way off the freeway exit and onto Via De La Valle.
The theme for this year was A Fair to Remember. It brought us back to the history and excitement of the World’s Fair, one of the prime examples being what is now San Diego’s Balboa Park.

This year I went with something simple. Hey, I was going to be walking around for the better half of the day, so might as well, right?
You don't necessarily need to wear a hat when you're going to the fair. As a matter of fact, it's probably not preferred, especially if you're planning to go on rides that tend to blow things like that right off your head. I couldn't help it though-this floppy hat from Brixton was way too cute not to bring.
I then picked out a simple, white t-shirt to balance out the sun hat's unique color (I must like this color a lot, because it's brick again). Its loose fitting shape also makes you feel the cool breeze from the ocean; a godsend when you're in a place with several food trucks and people. At least you'll know where to go for extra body warmth.

Two of my most favorite things to do while I’m at the fair are to go to the fine arts building, where the art and photography entries are featured, and the garden show.
Seriously. If I only had an hour to spend there, I would be running through the halls of the exhibits, trying to soak up everything I could see.
When I was younger and went to the fair with my parents, looking the different mediums of art that people put out every year was a tradition of sorts. Really, there’s nothing more awesome than to see someone put all their effort into a landscape design or the photograph of a smiling child.
Here’s a little tidbit for you: if you go to the art exhibit around 7 or so, you could hear whatever band is playing at night, as the building also houses the racetrack stadium.
This year my boyfriend and I strolled hand in hand, looking through the assortment of art as the band Kansas played in the background.
There was no need to buy anything, save an admission ticket, for us to enjoy these works of art while music serenaded us from the background. In other words, it was a special moment.
