Spring is officially here! As a way to celebrate the season, my boyfriend and I took a trip up to the Lower Otay Lakes Reservoir. I used to go there often with my parents, but when your schedule becomes busier and the days become shorter, our habit of renting out kayaks dwindled to a complete stop.
Once we got out on the water, a feeling of peace washed over me. It's like the stress I carried around this past week rolled right off my shoulders. Funny how nature does that to you.
We also got to meet up with an old buddy of ours. According to him, he's the king of the lake and is usually surrounded by an entourage of devoted followers.
His name is Louie, and he's a goose.
Although he's only a goose, Louie carries himself with a regal air and commands the attention of the other ducks. I'd like to think of their behavior as a hierarchy of some sort. The ruling goose, the aristocratic ducks, the middle class seagulls and the peasant coots (poor little things).
According to one of the reservoir employees, the goose was christened by a former fisherman who used to spend much of his time at the lake. Although he passed away some time ago, his spirit lives on through Louie.

One thing you should always remember when you're out on the lake is to protect yourself. And I don't mean just wearing a life jacket. When the sun's rays reflect off the water, your skin and your eyes can become deeply affected.
Thankfully I came fully prepared with my hat, sunblock and sunglasses in tow.
But being safe doesn't mean you don't get to have fun. I picked up-okay, more like grabbed- this D&Y hat from a little boutique called Stroll by Stop Shop and Roll in Little Italy, and fell in love with its two-toned elements. Although I like a nice breeze as much as the next person, I'm glad there wasn't too much wind on the lake, otherwise it would've been blown right off!
My favorite part of this outfit, however, is the tank I bought from TJ Maxx the other day. It's so soft and flowy, making it the perfect kind of top to take with me during a sweltering hot day.
Having a cute phrase printed across the front doesn't hurt either.

Outfit: D&Y straw fedora (similar one here), Double Zero graphic muscle tank (similar one here) , Sanuk yoga mat sandals (similar one here), green stone bracelet, jean shorts.
If you find yourself passing by, be sure to check out the Lower Otay Lakes Reservoir. It's open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during daylight hours (see here for more info).
Now I'm going to switch things up a bit. For the first time, I'm going to show you what our adventures look like, up close and personal. Enjoy!
