According to its website, the tunnel leading to Sunny Jim's Sea Cave was created in the 1900's and contains about 145 steps which lead to the mouth of the cave.
Before my boyfriend and I drove up to La Jolla, we stopped at Harbor Town Pub, a fantastic bar on the corner of Rosecrans and Canon St. in Point Loma. Its cozy atmosphere was cause enough for us to plop ourselves down and order a couple of burgers, and I'm glad we did. They were juicy and riddled with pickles and grilled onions, my favorite.

Rainy days in San Diego are rare, so when it began pouring outside my window this morning, I knew we had to take advantage of it.
And what better way to enjoy a rainy day than to explore a sea cave accessible by land?

Back when I was in seventh grade, Steven Spielberg's "The Goonies" ignited my love for exploring. I used to imagine that the man-hole next to my house was the secret entranceway to a cave full of treasure. Unfortunately, that was never the case and my wish for an adventure in a sea cave went unfulfilled.
Till I saw Sunny Jim's Sea Cave, that is.
This was my second trip up to the cave, but seeing the cave after six years or so still gave me a sense of wonder. I'm pretty sure I took half a dozen pictures before we even reached the landing. The excited look on my boyfriend's face-it was his first time there-made it even more special.

For this adventure, I wore a canary yellow duffle coat by Roxy. The faux fur trim and multi-colored lining gives it a really fun feel and kept me warm as I walked around the damp cave.
I tend to get cold very easily; a light breeze blows by and I'm taken out, which is why I added a versatile sweater from Forever 21. It's pretty loose, making it a really comfortable piece to wear if you decide to layer your clothing.
Even though the sleeves of my coat were long enough to block any view of accessories, having a watch is always useful. But practical doesn't always have to mean boring. Rose gold looks good with almost anything and I loved the way it looked against my skin.
The next time you take a drive up to La Jolla, be sure to check out Sunny Jim's Cave Store. They're open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. The cave closes earlier than the store does, so check their website for more details.
Happy exploring! :)
