1.Pack a blanket and a couple of folding chairs for a festive night at the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights.
Sit back with a thermos of hot chocolate and watch a dazzling, holiday-themed procession of sailboats, kayaks, yachts and historical ships. This year’s theme is Christmas Around the World. The two of you will have a blast waving back at the parade’s participants and the occasional Santa Claus.

2. Enjoy holiday performances and browse through vendors during December nights at Balboa Park
On December 4th and 5th, Balboa Park becomes a winter wonderland that celebrates all the things we love about the holidays. Make your way through the crowd for the Swedish Santa Lucia Procession, wander around the park’s 17 museums, or choose from a selection of foods ranging from Polish doughnuts to Korean Bolgogi.

3. Take a turn around Hotel Del Coronado’s seasonal skating rink
If you thought ice and sand didn’t mix, you haven’t gone ice-skating at everyone’s favorite seaside hotel. This historical getaway’s ice rink opens Thanksgiving Day and is available until January 4th.

The mountains are a great escape for San Diego locals during the wintertime. Here you can walk hand in hand through the various shops and share a scrumptious slice of Mom’s apple pie with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream on the side. And if you’re lucky, you may see some snowflakes float down Main Street.

Turn up the holiday tunes as you drive around Chula Vista’s blindingly beautiful Christmas Circle. These neighborhood homes are dripping with Christmas lights and front yard décor that could put Santa’s North Pole to shame.
If traffic gets a little crazy, you can opt to park your car and walk around the circle instead. This hidden gem can be found at Whitney and Mankato Street during December, in the South Bay area.
